Hi!. It’s very nice to see you are making progress so fast!. I have one question, though it is not directly related to this. I understand that making a 64-bit version can be a lot of work, and that you are not able to do this yet. But, isn’t there a way to make a package for 64-bit systems, that has inside the 32-bit binary, but that would include all the dependencies or 32-bits libraries that you need for running the 32bit version? This would made the installation so much easier.
Keep up the good work!
please make a deb repository for apt for beta versions of skype!
Sound is not work on Macbook Pro with Fedora 8.
I’m really glad for the improvements Skype has gone through during the this year. This might not be the best place where to post this, but a feature I would like to have is something as apparently simple as knowing when the other one is writing on the chat window. Keep working like this!
I’ve just installed the .deb version on Ubuntu 7.10 and I notice that is impossible to register a new skype user. The window closes suddenly (after pressing the sign up button) without finishing the registration, but the user is not correctly created because the password does not work and the procedure to recover it (Forgot the password?) tell me that the email address and the skype name does not match. I’ve tested with two different new users with the same wrong behavior. Someone can confirm it and tell me how to recover the users created?
Yeah, this one looks and works great:) except one little thing – skype still does’nt work with my webcam (chicony twinklecam pro with ov511 driver)
Video from windoze users looks fine, but they can’t see me. Please do something with this, or tell me some hints how to make it work?
Installed 2.0.0.27. beta. Looks promising
Audio: works
Video out: Other people see me correctly
video in: I don’t see anything. only a black rectangle, or not even that. Tried this with various partners.
any recommendations?
There were two problem with Skype client[*]:
1) No video on Linux
2) No 64 bit version.
On is gone, one to be gone. If #2 is not addressed soon I’ll force my friends and family to switch to something I can talk to with the other client.
[*]: Both problems are total nonsense for a commercial product — I know one person SIP and H.323 client projects that are both 64-bit clean and were supporting video on Linux for ages. Give me that code under NDA and it will be 64-bit clean in a matter of days (for free!).
pipelogin? How to enjoy the feature? can I also remove the GNOME, since I can login to Skype by cmd line?
We need examples…any friend herein can advise us?
I’m using ubuntu 7.10 and an Acer travelmate 3040.
With Beta 13 my webcam works perfectly with other skype-windows user, no possibility with skype-linux (same beta’s)
With Beta 27 my webcam is working but I can’t see me and the other users can’t see me (and even I can’t see them). So I’m sure the webcam is working but I lost all webcam users….
I downloaded the “static” version to Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5 and all basic features work. I’m still looking for video cam driver software (none comes from Red Hat), but other than that everything works perfectly. This is for Red Hat Linux Kernel 2.6.18-53.1.4.el5.
Fantastic job!
I have the same problems.Every one can see me but i can’t see me or the others.Just a pink window…the previous 13 version was better than this one…
First I want to say thanks for developing video for Skype Linux, that’s great.
I downloaded and installed the 2.0.0.27 beta a few days ago, and that went fine, it even picked up my camera right away, and showed me a good preview of the video. However, when I call people, I cannot see them! They can see me, and we can both hear fine, but I can’t see anything, just some distorted blue patterns. I’m wondering if I need to install some requisite video library. I see others have had this problem too. Does anyone have a fix?
I tried 2.0.0.27 beta with ubuntu7.10 and a logitech quickcam stx : others can see me only if I am calling and if i renounce to see my own video.
An other strange thing is I loose the input video ( and get mine back ) if i pause then play again (with the pause /play button)
Well, not bad, but still need to be improved !
Thanks for the version provided, and wish good work to th e team to refine it !
Best regards,
Bruno.
This is a great release. I am running Kubuntu 7.10 with a Logitech webcam. When I was trying to use the 1.4 version, it kept crashing a lot on me after I made a call. Now I have NO crashes, it’s extremely stable and I get to use my webcam without having to reboot into Windows!! Great job! I can’t wait until final release!
I have had some hassles with getting the version 2.0.0.68 running on my Mandriva 2008 64bit but it does work!
I downloaded the static version from the download site and copied (as root) the content of the compressed files to their respective directories. Midnight Commander is superb for this!
In as far as my webcam, a friend gave me an X-Logic camera, which is recognized as Easy Snap Snake Eye webcam (Single Chip CIF). Dkms will install but the kernel module under 64bit did not work. I resolved this after downloading the respective gspca source code and extracted it. I then ran make clean which got rid of any binaries which could conflict with the build, then I ran “make && make install && modprobe gspca” as root. once that process had finished I simply typed “dmesg” in the konsole and sure enough the last statement was found webcam. I looked on the screen and sure enough Ekiga link on the desktop. I then fired up skype logged in and checked options, video and presto! There was my camera listed and I clicked test button… a few seconds later up came my cam image.
So I had to test with some to see my image… so thanks to my folks who obligingly accepted the call witnessed my moving image.
Finally I would like to thank Skype for recognizing that fact that linux users are becoming a strong component of their user base; another thanks goes to my folks & the biggest thanks to my wife who puts up with the fact I have to work on computers for a living!
I’m quite new to this Linux thing. I have gOS installed till I can get hold of PCLinux, but I can’t do certain things such as have sound when chatting on Skype, only the text.
The other thing I cannot do is open some of my Windows files to read and then copy them to OpenOffice.
Oh! and one more thing…I downloaded Google Earth for Linux and every time I try to open it, the computer goes back to restart.
Hi there,
I have an Acer Aspire Netbook and I downloaded this version of Skype (Skype 2.0 for Linux version 2.0.0.72). I really like it and it has been great. Only 2 problems, the first is the biggest…when I am on Skype Chat, sometimes it works great and other times it locks up and keeps telling me the messages have not been delivered. The strange thing is, it will happen in 1 chat conversation I am having and not in another that is going on at the same time. Is this a known error. I don’t seem to experience this when I use Skype in the Windows PC.
Other thing is similar to what other people have said. I can not configure my webcam in Skype…I can call someone on skype and then use the webcam by clicking on the webcam icon on the netbook but not if I try to do it through Skype…strange. Anyway, it is not a big problem because it still works but I thought it worth mentioning.
Any improvement on the chat problem would be great.
I use skype 2.0.0.72 static version (others don’t work) on Linux Red hat 5.1 kernel, GNOME desktop. The carmera (v4l2 input) works well on Linux test, but it doesn’t work in Skype. When I test it in Skype, it just stops for a long time.
