I am running a belkin wireless network. On my laptop with windows XP I can connect to skype fine – but with my vista home premium PC I cannot connect, and I then have to reboot to be able to use the internet.

I am using 3.5 on teh vista machine.

    Can’t work it out!

in the previous version my audio settings were saved properly by skype. Now, in this new version, the audio settings will not save. specifically, the audio devices that I select for “Microphone” and “Speakers” will not save. It automatically reverts to “Windows Default Device”. I can re-install the previous version of Skype that I had and everything will save fine, but this release offers some updates I need. HELP maybe?

I have a similar problem as servusa. If I make a skype call, in the recording panel the selection is switched from microphone to phone everytime. I can maually reselect the microphone after I started the call and for that session the microphone works OK. But every next call will deselect the microphone again. A Skype BUG probably?

I forgot: I also posted on Skype for Windows forum, tech details: Skype 3.6.0.244, Windows 2000 Pro (with administrator rights).

I’ve had the same problems as both of you on v3.6.0.244. After reading this post, I just upgraded to v3.6.0.248. The release update notes didn’t mention this problem, and nor did it fix this problem.
However, with a bit of fiddling I managed to get the settings to save anyway. Here’s my notes incase it’s useful.

    My case:
I’m on Vista Ultimate running as non-Admin but I definitely have write permissions to the App Data folder where my config.xml file lives.
My 3 audio settings are Mic, Speakers, Ringing. For Mic, I have 3 sound choices: Windows Default Device, Sigmatel Audio, Quickcam. For Speakers and Ringing I have 3 devices: Windows Default Device, Sigmatel Audio, SPDIF Sigmatel. I have a laptop with built-in webcam (hence the Quickcam option). The soundcard is called Sigmatel. The audio jacks for phones and mic, on the front of my lappy are called SPDIF.
In my case, I wanted Mic to be on Quickcam and Speakers & Ringing to be on Sigmatel (thereby using just my built-in speakers, rather than headphones via the audio jack). Unfortunately my Ringing kept going back to SPDIF when I quit and reopened Skype.

    My fix:
I set everything to Windows Default and it kept the settings. Then I set it how I wanted and it stuck too. Now I can change any 1 item at a time and it will keep the changes too.
It’s almost like it was just stuck on the 1 set of settings, but once I switched it all to Windows Default, it started saving changes again.

I hope this helps someone. Let me know if it works for you.

    Hi

I just tried doing as you said, theras2000, but it doesn’t work for me. I have v3.6.0.248 already, and have Windows Vista. My issue is that I seem to need the Speakers audio setting in Skype set to “Internal speaker/Headphone (Conexant High Definition Audio)” in order to hear people when they call. But every time I try to save this as the setting in Skype, it does not register, and goes back to “SPDIF Interface (Conexant High Definition Audio)” whenever someone calls me or I call them. Then I have to go in and change it to the internal speaker in the first few seconds of this call. Very irritating, and often takes some time before the change registers.

Have tried setting everything to Windows default as you suggest but it doesn’t help. Can anybody help (I’m not a techie so plain-language explanations would be very helpful!)

    Thanks

  7. I had the same problem as the following people, I searched for the Config.xml in widows 7 default install it is located at C>users>Windows accountname>appdata(hidden folder)>roaming>skype>Skype account name>config.xml

I checked the properties of the xml file and found it was set to read only, simply uncheck the readonly box and click ok. go back to skype set your settings close skype and reopen and poof all settings saves properly.
