Hi. After reading way too many forums and trying everything short of standing on my head, I finally solved my mic problems on Vista by renaming the microphones. Apparently 2 mics of the same name confuses Vista’s little brain. Try it and see!

Hi, I am having a maybe Windows Vista Home Premium related problems. I have sent request to Skype but have not heard from it. Skype is my main communication tool and now I can’t make any calls – I’ve also paid for using Skype unlimited phone service.

Everything works except, about 2 months ago, I started reaching people overseas who I don’t even know of. I dialed the number from my Contact List on my Skype and I checked, the phone number is the same but I just had to try 2 or 3 times before I can reach the correct party.

About 5 days ago, I’ve noticed that I can hear but the other party cannot hear me. How can I fix such problem? I have been waiting for Skype to send me instruction and am still waiting. I have not been able to find the solution online myself for the past a few days.Thank you VERY MUCH for your help and best regards.

I have a weird issue with my skype install on my Vista Desktop machine. Whenever I try to connect to the Skype network, the connection is not able to be made, and the “connecting” update display just spins around for a few minutes before declaring that it was unable to connect. When this happens, all communications over port 80 (http) stop working and web browsing via IE, Firefox or Safari stops functioning. Sometimes after waiting 10-15 minutes, this port is usable again, but sometimes a reboot is required.

I am able to use Skype on Linux and Mac OS stations in the office, so I don’t believe it is a nework firewall issue. The McAfee firewall is turned off on the Vista, but I am unable to get it functioning on my Vista Machine.

Does anyone have any suggestions re where to start debugging?

HI! I’m having the same problems!!!!!!!!!!
    Error message on setup:
    “C:UsersDesktopSkypeSetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application”

I had to buy a new laptop HP Compaq 6830s, and it came with Windows Vista and McAfee software. Have tried to reinstall both the latest versions of Skype, but no luck.

I am not having audio issues. Both parties can hear the conversation, however only one party can see the video. One party cannot see the video of the other. What’s the problem? Help!

I just got Windows VISTA on my new HP Pavillion computer. I am not able to hear anyone on my speakers even though the “test call” says that she is speaking. My microphone also seems to be working. My speakers works great with ITunes so I know they are good speakers. They are polkaudio speakers. Am I going to need to get new speakers to be compatable with Skype? I have Skype Beta on my computer. Thank you for answering my questions.

READ THIS FIX…. I had the same problem with the WIN32 application error message and could not install Skype. What I did different was this….. instead of saving the download file to my laptop and then running it, I merely ran the download from the website. It then saved it to my temp folder and installed it. Now I will see if it operates correctly, but it did install, which it would not do before.

    Hello,
I have been using Skype for about a week and it has been a great resource for me. Unfortunately I have been having an issue for the last two days. After I uninstalled Norton from my computer Skype would not connect to the web. Skype starts just fine but then it just shows that it is attempting to connect. It does this without change and I have been unable to use skype ever since. Interestingly enough, Firefox will not connect either. Internet Explorer does connect as well as other programs. I went through the process of completely clearing all Norton folders from my hard drive and have tried to reinstall Skpye but to no avail. Any suggestions?

  11. lenonhonor said 1594 days ago

I should also add that I am using Vista 64-Bit home premium. Thanks.

  12. ericly12 said 1586 days ago

OK i used skype before last year it worked great it crashed but not as much as it is now usually when i’m in a conference my skpye just keeps shutting down with no waring or anything. :(

  13. bao_dude1947 said 1571 days ago

Are there some success stories out there using VISTA 64 bit operating systems? I guess if it is working good you probably are not reading this, but if there please comment. What Skype version? Any other PC tweeks or changes to make it work. Do all functions work including video, Skype out, etc. Thanks

  15. sgrushcow said 1545 days ago

I have the same problem as the last post, Skype 4 isn’t working with Vista. Also, the Skype home page crashes for me in IE and in Chrome it says “Shockwave Flash Failed”. When I load Skype 4 and try to start a video session, it crashes every time. Any ideas?

  16. ellabellaballerina said 1541 days ago

okay my computer crashed recently, and I had to do a complete system restore, therefore losing all my user installed programs. I had skype before and it worked perfectly, but now i keep getting the win32 application error. The few times the downdload has worked, i get a message saying that skype can’t connect to the download server, and that I need to download the manual installer, which own’t work and only gives me the win32 error

help please! I need skype urgently to stay in contact with my parents overseas!

I have Windows Vista. Everything works mostly O.K. except that sometimes when my contact and I we are both online, we see each other as offline and we can not communicate. This situation usually lasts several days, than we get a short break and after that we loose communication again. Why this is happening? Thank you for your help, best regards.

Have a similar problem described earlier. Audio connection works fine and one party has good video. Other party only sees green screen but can take snapshots. What is causing the green screen? (I’m on XP). Any answers?

Vista Business(32 bit) running on my Fujitsu Siemens ESPRIMO Mobile V5515 Computer. When I’m try to take a video call while after my computer crashes. If anyone turned of his camera no problem occurs. If we-both turn on our cameras my computer crashes. Then I should give hard reboot. I have use trust webcam and now I’m using Philips camera. This problem do not depends on camera. No other problems with skype. I noticed that this problem also have richhie7 & isatobi . I need a solution soon. Why this is happening. I’m disappointed.

  26. rangika8 said 1485 days ago

If I install XP on my computer this problem do not occurs. This problem is between Vista, Computer and Skype I think.

  27. rangika8 said 1485 days ago

I need both Vista and Skype…

  28. hystericallyme said 1428 days ago

Fantastic, will there be support ever!? Or at least prompt support when OS 7 comes out because 10 second phones calls are ridiculous! The longest conversation I’ve had on skype lately a minute and a half before everything crashes. Anyone else having this problem or have suggestions because the Skype help line has not answered a single one of my emails?

  29. steppenwolfe25 said 1410 days ago

I’m a new user as of yesterday, when I downloaded Skype 4.1. I see there is still is no comprehensive answer on getting microphones to work with Vista 64.
It seems that Skype still aren’t bothering to do anything about it. Are they always this useless, or is it just me expecting too much from them?

My Dell Webcam will not turn on when I answer/initiate a video call. HOw do I correct?

  35. kpenszky said 1188 days ago

I am able to VideoCall 2 friends in different states. We hear each other OK. I see them and I see myself. Neither of them can see me, though when they call each other, they can both see each other fine. I am running Windows Vista. My WebCam is a Phillips SPC 600NC/37. Phillips states that Skypes only works with XPs, not Windows Vista. Please advise as to what I can do to correct the problem. Thank You So Much!

    Hello,

I used Skype with Vista Home Premium since two years. Despite some terrible call quality issues, in general it worked fine. At least until a couple of weeks ago when I just noticed that the SMS and IM features didn’t work anymore.

This morning I just saw that I can’t place a call, even to the Echo/Sound Service. Upgrading the software version (right now on 4.2), deinstalling and reinstalling it didn’t resolve the problem. I still have some credit so there should not be any problem related to payment. Already checked the firewall everything was as indicated. I already called the ISP and they confirmed skype was not blocked.

I’m using a sony vaio VGN-FE41S, with intel core 2 Duo as processor. All audio drivers and accessories are checked, updated and working normally.

Please help, really appreciate any feed-back.

I was asked to install a Skype phone on a Vista machine for my parents-in-law and I was faced with the rather unhelpful message “Not a Win32 application” for the installation Ver 5.0 SkypeSetup.exe. I went to the developers website:

    http://developer.skype.com/WindowsSkype/

and downloaded instead the Ver5.0 SkypeSetupFull.exe program. Some strange behavior under Vista was that I had to download everything twice or three times since the program would simply be deleted from the download area without any explanation after downloading successfully; I saw it happen in front of my own eyes – weird. The full setup program installed OK and I am using the phone now successfully – phoning all over the world. Hope this helps other people – well done Skype for getting it working under Vista.
