Record Skype video calls
Macworld just wrote that there is a video call recorder out from Ecamm. It can record incoming and outgoing calls as QuickTime files that can then be played back or edited using other software. AAC encoding is supported. It costs $14.95 to download.

I downloaded the free 7-day trial version. It closed and relaunched my Skype after which a separate record button and a recording preferences tab appeared in Skype. The experience was quite Skype-like and the recording neatly appeared on my Desktop after the call. So it seems like a nice piece of software, but I nevertheless have to add that it is a third party product that is not Skype Certified, so we cannot guarantee it always works like clockwork.

“so we cannot guarantee it always works like clockwork.”
So just like Skype itself then!!
I’ve been using Call Recorder for a while now. The newest version (2.0) just launched this week with added video recording capabilities. The quality of the recordings is superb although at the mercy of the Skype connection. I use it to record interviews for podcasts…..works beautifully. Since you can extract each track, it allows for tweaking the sound a bit. I import the tracks into GarageBand, adjust the sound effect, add our intro and music, and podcast is ready to go. So, while I can’t say it won’t always work ‘like clockwork’……realistically, what does? I can say it hasn’t failed me yet, and it works brilliantly!
Not Ecomm. This product, which has been around for quite a while as an audio-recorder and only now has VIDEO capabilities, is actually from Ecamm.
Your spelling didn’t “work like clockwork” this time, huh?
Sorry. Couldn’t resist it.
Well spotted, thanks. Fixed this typo now.
*ähmmm* i would like to see skype for mac working like a clockwork – unforunately THAT is NOT maclike.
please improve program stability of skype for mac!
btw: skype for pc works much better than for mac…
this software is not perfect, i was using the latest version 2.2 and it recorded a still image at the start of the video, then just a blank white image for the rest of the video, the audio track recorded fine, but no video!
was an important call, had bought the whole program specifically for this call and it didnt work..
disappointing… avoid.
It’d be nice if Skype would just add this as a standard feature. It can’t be rocket science if so many 3rd party utilities are adding this capability. That way also there could be an agreed upon privacy setting – so there could be a little notice that appears if you’re being recorded and you can set to block recording for that call or all calls.
I mean, it just makes more sense all around for it to be part of Skype.
Greets All – first post here. Looks VERY cool!
Do you need to have a Mac on both ends of the call, or can you call from a Mac to a PC and get AT LEAST audio recorded, or (going for the moon, here) calling from a Mac to an audio + video – enabled PC?
Does the call have to be skype user to skype user or can it be from skype user to any landline… e.g. from Canada to Europe or Australia?
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating it today (we had our last month up here, eh!)
Jack
Just tried this… it looks very cool! I’m gonna buy it!
Tried this, but the quality of the call goes down when I record. Any alternatives to ecamm, for a Mac?
I’m wondering if there is a way to simply record the skype video with a video camera plugged into a USB port while I’m skyping? Has anyone tried this?
Mac
VodBurner for Windows was released today (vodburner.com). This records video from both sides and also allows editing before creation of a final video for uploading or whatever.
Which Call Recorder works best on a PC? I don’t have a Mac.
I use IMCapture for Skype on MAc and Windows as well. Very good app)

So where’s the free trial download???
IMCapture for Skype is used for Mac also. U can download it from imcapture.com.
WARNING- DO NOT INSTALL
week old I7 top of the line macbook pro, installed Skype and this call recorder and now making any outbound calls crashes not only Skype but upon force quitting leaves the Skype and recorder windows open and makes the system unstable. Trying to uninstall this, basically a virus in my book. STAY AWAY!!!
CORRECTION – Skype was crashing due to using a bluetooth headset it would appear.
