Skype videos on YouTube, and a random video with iChat
I have been watching the [YouTube search feed for Skype](http://www.youtube.com/rss/tag/skype.rss) for quite a while now (a year or so). For months and months, there wasn’t really anything posted there about Skype at all. But in the past few months, it has become really active. People are posting phone/video calls with their families or random people, interviews, tutorials, [silly videos with emoticons](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzLQOXW8y-A) (staff favourite! 
) and what not.
Here’s a random recent one, where someone compares the connectivity of iChat and Skype on Mac. iChat tries to connect to the user’s AIM account, but fails repeatedly. Skype takes a bit longer to connect, but works fine.
iChat works fine in France…. and Skype too…
The point of the video is lost on me…are we to infer that Skype is better than AIM/iChat? The user has a poor network connection? That people really will watch anything?
dr_gardner – the point of the video is to be a random sample of everything Skype-related that people post on YouTube. You can as well watch the “silly emoticons” one linked from here if you don’t like this iChat comparison one.
Actually, the point of the video (I made it) was to convince my uncle that it is very frustrating trying to connect to Apple’s .mac AIM service over iChat from my ISP in Beijing, but that Skype generally connects on the first try. My uncle refused to download and use Skype, because it was not bundled with his Mac. However, it is obvious from this video that Skype would solve the terrible connection problems I was having trying to reach him over iChat. Yes, I know, my uncle’s behavior is very irrational.
@dr_gardner, “poor network connection” is an understatement! Perhaps the larger message here is that Skype tends to work better than iChat (the service as offered by Apple/AIM, not necessarily the software on one’s hard drive) when the user does have a poor network connection.
Its so wierd. Someone keeps saying “hello” to me but I dont now what to do
