Skype for Linux goes public
We have finally put up the latest and the greatest and public and 1.3.
Named Skype for Linux 1.3.0.53 it sports an impressive [change log](http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/changelog.html) with a lot of visual, usability and sound quality improvements.
There are still some audio problems (for some users, especially those on Ubuntu 6.06), and we will try to address them in further versions.
[Go and grab](http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/) yourself a copy.
[Repositories](http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/repositories.html) for fc3, fc4, fc5 and debian should catch up soon, too. (Yes, you can put any of 3,4,5 instead of just 3 in the path for FC repositories).
Enjoy, and share your feedback! (Remember: Sharing is good!)
ps/ for Ubuntu 6.06 users – upgrade to 6.10, it will fix most of your audio problems.
Thank you, I love you, you are great.
And now, please get back to work on implementing all the stuff we’re missing in comparison to other versions.
No rest for the weary…
Once again, thank you.
Two things:
1) Ubuntu 6.10 is a BETA and should therefore NOT be used in production.
2) I had a really hard time trying to post this comment since I signed in, and were taken to my account, then I went back to this page and now I wasn’t signed in any more. But I was still signed in to the portal.
Signing in through “comment on this post” allowed me to post.
Fix that, please.
Skype was working fine with UBUNTU 6.06, but since I upgraded to 6.10 it is creating issues. The person at other end cannot hear me!
I confirm what mishranurag says. Skype 1.2 worked fine on Ubuntu 6.06. However, it’s completely useless on Ubuntu 6.10 (silence in both directions), and so is Skype 1.3: I can hear the other party, but the person at other end cannot hear me.
I just found out about skype and tried it on debian and kubuntu but got nowhere! So I have put it on XP and it runs well. However, I want to get it moing on linux so I will have to go back to school to find out what mistakes I have made! Thanks frank
Hi, I’m using opensuse and have the same problem: “other-side-person-cannot-hear-me”. Any suggestion to solve it? Thanks. BTW, the 1.3 is much better than 1.2. Great job!
Is there a Ubuntu repository for staying current automatically with Skype? If so, can you post/forward info on the apt-get url? If not, could one be made available? Ubuntu is very easy to maintain. It would be awesome if Skype had an official repository as there are more Ubuntu users than Debian.
Is there a Ubuntu repository to use with apt? Automatic updates would be very valuable and easy. Medibuntu use to host Skype but no longer apparently. Karmic Koala (9.10) is my current distro, but always updating…
