Skype third birthday card competition results

The Skype 3rd birthday card competition is now over. A big THANK YOU to all of you who sent us a card.

We got over 160 cards from all over the world. We got e-cards, pictures, videos, even a podcast. What we like especially about the cards was their diversity, both in content and where they came from. Skype is truly spread all over the world and it shows well in the cards.

Here is the winner as well as some other highlighted entries.

The winning entry

Here it is. Click on the picture to see the bigger, better readable texts.

It comes from Susan, originally from the US but currently living in South Korea. Congratulations, Susan! :) We will shortly ship you the prizes, one USR9610 speakerphone and one USR9601 USB Internet Phone from our friends at US Robotics, as well as a Skype Cordless VoIP Dualphone from AmperorDirect.com.

Stories

Some people simply sent us their stories or written wishes. We got them in many languages — here are the ones in English that we found most moving. Thanks.

I have been using skype since its early beta days and must say i still love it.  i love the direction its going, and can’t wait to see what new and exciting features are still to come.  My girlfriend is from brazil and uses skype constantly to talk to her family back home and while she is visiting i can talk to her completely free.  this has saved us hundreds of dollars.  i love you skype!  keep up the good work! (paladin252, USA)

Keep up the great work, and thanks for making video calls between PC and Mac both easy and free! That’s the most valuable feature of Skype as of yet, at least for me and my family. (matsolsson, Sweden)

From Spain, Barcelona, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SKYPE AND FRIENDS!!!! The birthday is for the seven million users that yesterday we were on line, expression without limits, muchas gracias Sr. Skype!!! (ikoboniko25, Spain)

I don’t know if i write in hungarian anybody can understand my mail!
So, i decide i write my wishes in my poor english.
I am very happy that there is someone in the world who is for make our life better, but Skype is.
So i wish that Skype can be long life!
It is a very good thing that i can speak for no money or very cheap in the world with anybody, and i wish this will be for long.
I hope that it will be able that somebody can wish you a Happy 1000th Birthday!!! (Hungary)

Hi, I am an old man. To be exact, 58 years and 9 months. My two children have gone away. Elder of the two has made Espoo in Finland her home, where she lives with her husband. Both work for Nokia at Helsinki. The younger one, now lives in Houston, USA. That leaves two old persons (me and wife) at New Delhi, India. So we wait for saturday every week, when we are supposed to talk to our children. All other days, they are too busy to be bothered. And Skype with its low rates make us happy on that day. But for Skype we would have talked much less as international dialling rates are quite high. My wife is not much used to computers. So it is I who connect to internet, and make calls via skypeout. Somebody told us that in market one can buy a device called “Linksys pap2 ata”, thro which using skype becomes very simple. But we do not know much about it. So we will rather use it this way only. i wish if Skype could drop their rates for Finland mobiles. Than we can talk even more with our daughter. (anilsaxena99, India)

Happy B’day, Skype! I’m an US expat living in Eastern Europe and don’t know how I would get by without Skype to keep me connected to my family back home.  It’s great to hear their voices and see my nieces and nephews almost like I was there.  You guys get my full appreciation for the work you do.  Keep up the good work and here’s wishing you many more birthdays with many more milestones!  (asolter, Bulgaria)

Dear Skype, this is my vision:
At the beggining, you changed the way to call with a smart idea.
Then, you shared VoIP with all of us for Free!
Now, you joined WiFi with a lot of friends: Fon network.
Tomorrow, you are going to be the gladiator in the arena of communication!
In a near future, all devices will be wifi-enable and will have a free
skype player
A little way to say Happy Birthday to a company that change the world! (Italy)

Thanks for such a wonderful technology that can help me as a business owner bring down cost of communication.  I was working in Japan for three months on a project and it saved me so much money as I need to make calls to other countries constantly.  Keep up the good work. (victor_wong_hk, Hong Kong)

Only signed up to Skype 3 days ago!  I love it already, it’s the best!! (si.weston, UK)

Happy birthday and million thanks for the great job you’ve done. Skype changed the way we communicate in my company and allowed us to lower the phone bills (and believe me, those landline calls are expensive in Poland). Keep up the good job (Skype for Mac out of beta, please) ;) (ptkaczyk, Poland)

In these days when the world is divided by religion, wealthiness and ideology, you are the only one true “add all together” factor in the world. There are no enough words to THANK YOU and to say Happy Birthday. Happy Happy Birthday to you Skype!!!! (mixu51, Australia)

happy 3th to the 1st (Italy)
