Great reasons to use Skype on a Pocket PC device

You don’t have to be in front of a computer, carry your laptop or wait for it to boot to make Skype calls. Skype for Pocket PC gives you the freedom to make free calls anywhere. All you need is a Pocket PC and a high speed wireless internet connection. Here’s just a few ways that it can make your life easier.

Whilst Abroad: Avoid expensive mobile phone bills while roaming. Check your hotel offers free or low cost WiFi and stay in touch with work, friends and family by connecting to Skype in your hotel or any public WiFi hotspot. Most airports also offer WiFi, so stay connected to your Skype contacts on the go. With SkypeIn, people back home can call you on your Windows Mobile phone paying local rates too.

In your home: Bad reception on your mobile at home? Take advantage of your home broadband connection (make it WiFi) and use Skype for free. Get a SkypeIn number and people who aren’t on Skype can call you on a regular landline number. Alternatively, where your PC is in the study or a different room, Skype for Pocket PC gives you the freedom to talk for free, chat anywhere in your home.

On a train or plane: You can even get WiFi on some trains and planes, so connect to the network and make free Skype calls whether you’re under a tunnel or in the air.

Living in or visiting the USA? Make free calls to landlines and mobiles in the US and Canada whenever you have WiFi access Also, why pay to receive calls on your US mobile? Get a US SkypeIn number here and receive calls for free whenever you have WiFi coverage.

It looks like a nice product, but it still wont connect through company proxies and firewalls. It wont even detect a connection on a Fujitsu Loox 720. I’ve been trying for the past year to get Skype mobile to connect through our firewall and proxy, but still no luck.

This beta-program has a bug, causing trouble (internal crash) in Pocket Informant ContactView part. Otherwise is OK

    Try ActiveSync 4.2

You need to make a Skype for Pocket PC with built in camera support as webcam, it doesn’t need to transmit high res but it would be a first for Pocket PC and its something that is needed.

I sure wish you would make get Skype for the Smartphone. I can run the Pocket PC Version except for that first screen tap that is needed the first time you run Skype. Can’t you all make an opetion of hitting an enter key or something insteasd of having to tap the screen so that we can use the Pocket PC version without having to buy some additional software to simulate a creen tap. $35 for software to do one screen tap is pretty expensive.

will you someday release a version for symbian 9? the new nokias come with wifi integrated but they use symbian instead of windows mobile… it could be a great share of the market if you developed it.

hey i am a frequent user of the pocket pc version of skype. Im currently running it on my qtek 9000 and have had no bugs so far- keep up the good work. However i was wondering if you could develop a add on for microsoft active sync that could allow your device to search skype for pocket pc updates and alert you of new beta releases?

Re: “This is not a valid pc application”.

    Download Skype for Pocket PC
    Connect phone to PC
Run Downloaded Skype software, it will install it on the phone

Unfortunately Skype does not work well on the phone: choppy communication and automatic speakerphone activation without possibility of switching it to earpiece.

    I hope this helps
