I’ve tried to complete the survey in two different browsers and haven’t been able to get it to work. Having filled in the initial page, I just get a Skype logo, a horizontal divider and then an ‘eCustomer Opinions’ logo. I’ve turned pop-up blockers off and still no joy. Very un-Skype-like.

I think that logo page is intentional. From the wording, it sounds like they will send you an invite to complete the survey (check your email later?).

I dont get it, how does this feedback-thing work? I´ve tried two times now (firefox) without any result….

I think 3rd party opinion surveys are off putting. I mean these guys do what with my email and skype addresses ?

I’m happy to provide feedback, but let the email and skype ID’s be optional, I don’t trust 3rd parties with that sort of information.

The beta is working well. Thank’s Skype’s mac team. The only 2 things, in my opinion, have some problems are:

    - after 10/15 minutes, the video from my camera stops and I need to resend the video.

    - the actual status of my friends usually is wrong. I know someone is online (by others softwares) and it doesn’t appers online (only if I do a call).

Thank’s and sorry for my english.

    re: Video “pre”Beta version

    bugs:

    – As someone else mentioned, I find the online status is sometimes inaccurate. It may take several minutes before my Contact list shows their changed status (offline, unavailable, etc.).
    – I loaded the .dmg file on several computers. In every case, I had to reload the program from the .dmg file a second time after the computer was shut off because the program wouldn’t start up. It’s worked fine after that initial reload. This problem happened on all my machines.
    – The (flag:xx) feature in the windows version doesn’t work in the new Mac version. This should be simple(?) to add. I’m speaking of the flag icons that can be added to a chat message.
    – I won’t repeat the bugs I found that you already mentioned (video overuse of system resources, etc.)

    improvements:

    – Allow for resizing of the “search for Skype users” window. This same pop-up window is used elsewhere in Skype with the same problem. This becomes an issue when I need to resize the search result columns so I can read the entire information.
    – “missed calls” in the main Skype contact window is unclear how to quickly delete/clear this number without calling back, opening additional windows, etc.. Perhaps a right mouse click command-clear?
    – Allow for repositioning of the sender’s video window within the main video window frame. Similar to iChatAV. Even if it is simply dragging it and having it snap to one of the four corners depending on how the other person is composed in the frame.

    good job:
    – The entire look and feel is great, especially the improved ease of calling an ordinary phone line.

    …may have more feedback later.
Thanks for all your hard work to get it right.

I posted my comments here because I also do not use 3rd party opinion surveys that collect my email, etc.. I would fill in a Skype in-house survey. You already have my info!

Non-video Beta working fine, absolutely no problems, and the interface is a vast improvement. Thanks to the team!

    Dear Skype,
a long wait, and now video at last! Thank you! However, unlike others in this forum I keep having problems. I can see the video from my PC friend, but he can’t see mine. Was the same with the 1.4 video preview. We’ve spent 2 hours trying everything: The result stays the same. I can see my face in the video preference window, so the iSight seems to be alright.
But in the Video window, where I see my partner, the box in the lower right corner, where my picture should be, stays empty (i.e. white).
    Does anybody have an idea?

PC: Notebook, Win XP, 1.8GHz, 512 MB, Skype 2.5.0.130
    Mac: PowerBook 12″ OS 10.3.9, 1.5 GHz, 768 MB, Skype 1.5.0.61

The sub preview of the video call seemed need refresh for about 10minutes. Once we had the problem, cut off the call and redialed. I am using Mac Book with inbuilt iSight Skype 1.5.0.61 and another line using Windows Thinkpad Skype 2.5.0.91

    It worked great though !

Love the beta, but like other people, I have had some issues with peoples online status. Also, where are some of the features that Windows users can enjoy, such as SkypeSMS?! Surely it’s not that difficult to code? Also, I don’t know if it’s intentional, but my Skype credit takes about 15 minutes to refresh after a Skype out call sometimes. Been using video a lot, haven’t had any problems, apart from the not being able to move the video preview around (it kept blocking my friends head >.

I just want Skype to work through a firewall. And stay logged-in where ever I surf on this website. You did the log-in? Please do it again to leave a post. Thanks.

Skype has caused me more hassle than pleasure on mac. I’m sick of it and switching to gizmo. It deleted ALL my contacts, and I can’t get them back. That really pissed me off. Now it crashes whenever we’re calling skype out users – in the middle of the call. We can’t hear anything when skype users call us, but they can hear fine.

Conference calls don’t work on non intel-windows systems, it’s resource heavy in mac, and linux users don’t have audio support.

Why is skype Windows biased? It seems they have an arrangement with key IT players, like Microsoft, and Intel. I hope they get burnt for anti competitiveness like Microsoft currently is in Europe. Wihout a doubt skype completely deserves it. Skype’s behaviour is completely uncalled for and unfair on pro-choice users on linux and mac os x.

So here’s my ‘Skype, go to hell’ message. You’ve lost my confidence and proven business objectives ruin good software. What a shame.

I like the new look of Skype for Mac. However, I have had a lot of problems with it. It cuts off the phone call suddenly and then it shuts down the program. I have installed it twice but still get the same problem. Does anyone have a word on it?

  16. jnhearne said 2358 days ago

I was having Problems with a new T1 line installed in my house. The company that provides the Service had a retarded NAT firewall. It was easy to circumvent using port forwards and ssh commands etc. (so not very firewall-ish). But iChat was having problems with it. I could no longer use the video conferencing.

    Enter Skype 2.006.

I installed the app and viola Video. Whatever port skype is using (40979) was working better than Mac’s native app.

Cut to 2 weeks later. Skype is holding up but like the users above. I’ve been noticing bugs. One that is not mentioned here is a bug I have been reading about in the PC version of skype.

Voicmail. Once I leave a voicemail for someone. It will forever go to voicmail. even after the voicemail is played and deleted. I can no longer call my wife because it goes to voicemail. Even when she changes her status to Online or Skypeme. Now it appears that all calls from her activate my voicemail. I don’t even get the calls anymore.

My Thoughts are there must be an option to disable voicemail. Perhaps in the new 2.5 beta. I’ll download it and report back.

Anyone else with a problem like this?

I have a Mac OS 10.4.8 and have been able to use Skype easily for audio chat. Have now downloaded latest Skype for Mac 2.0.0.6, to be able to have a video link, but no ‘tools’ option appears, though the video part of the preferences shows that the in-built iSight is working. Have downloaded three times now – but still no luck . I can see the picture of a pc -using contact with no trouble. What have I done wrong or is this a known difficulty?
