Cool new ways to use Skype on your Mac

I got sent these details on cool new ways you can use Skype for Mac, so I’m posting them in here for you all to see!

Integrate Skype in your FileMaker solutions

The Swedish company Premium System has developed a Skype plug-in allowing Skype to be integrated into the database software FileMaker.

With the plug-in you can use Skype to call landlines, mobile phones or other Skype users directly from your FileMaker records. You can also control your Skype contact list, start conference calls, send and receive chat messages without leaving FileMaker.

Skype users get $40 off on Timbuktu Pro 8.6

Timbuktu, the popular desktop remote access and control software from Netopia is now fully integrated with Skype. Timbuktu Pro enables you to share desktops, enable remote access and exchange files with other users. I have been using Timbuktu the past three years to remotely connect to my parent’s computer when they get stuck using their Mac.

With the new version of Timbuktu you can initiate calls from inside Timbuktu to Skype users, but more importantly you can automatically set up a Skype tunnel to connect to other users desktops without worrying about IP addresses and configuring firewalls. The Skype tunnel allows all data to be sent over a completely secure encrypted Skype connection.

Control Skype with your voice

With Speakables for Skype you can control Skype with your Voice. When a Skype call comes in, you can answer it by simply saying “Answer Call” and when you are done just say “Hang Up” to finish the call. You can also set Speakables to call a specific contact just by saying his or her name.

Speakables for Skype is a pretty neat application that uses the built-in voice recognition software in Mac OS X.

Thanks ever so much for nothing!
What we all want and can’t seem to get is video for Macs.
What about telling us what the situation is with our video and when we will be able to download it.

    yes I agree…
I am an average mac user, I never used nor filemaker nor timbuktu ( I dont even know what is it…) and probably will never use… I don’t use skypecasts, nor record my calls nor any other fancy stuff I see here in the blogs…. I am jus a straight simple user of skype that uses it to talk to the family and to the friends and yes, the feature I miss the most and I want more is video…all the rest is secondary…

    filemaker integration?

let’s start out with bringing the mac version up to par please;)

windows is at 2.5beta and mac is at 1.4 with no betas available..

    bad bad bad.

You guys should stop complaining — or should I say, you should complain, politely, in the appropriate location. Instead, every single post here has the same complaints about the Mac version being out of date compared to the PC version.

Which is true, but it is not Ryan’s personal fault that this is so, (b) complaining on every post here will not accelerate the next Mac version, and (c) stop whining- they are working on it and it just makes Mac users look like babies when we complain like this. Yes, the Mac version ought to be released at the same time and be kept up to date with the PC version, but there should also be world peace and gas should be 50 cents a gallon.

I especially like the comment from the “average Mac user” in post #2 — Filemaker and Timbuktu are veteran Mac applications that have supported the MacOS for some 20 years. If you are a Mac user and don’t know what they are, well, educate yourself. Filemaker is a database that lets you do some amazing customized things, it is very powerful and easy to use, and Timbuktu is remote control; it lets you see another computer’s screen from across the internet, and control it as if you were in front of it, very useful for remote troubleshooting, helping out family and friends with computer problems and so forth. It is very nice to see both these products integrated with Skype.

Indeed and this info is well in the remit of this blog.

do you know the difference between a sheep and a mac user ?
a mac user will not automaticaly jump on all your new supposed free soft, because he wants video, and as it has come late now, he do not want to buy any skype product until the video will be released !!!

c’est donnant donnant as we say in french !

    to mikesilvermanks:
mac it user will use ard and then Timbuktu.
and yes people are right to say that : RELEASE THE VIDEO WE WILL SEE FOR OTHER PRODCUTS LATER

    Donnant donnant mon oeil

I agree with you that users want video, though I prefer other features first (with the ironing out of some quirks)… and we could stay days arguing over this but life and development goes on.

The above, like it or not, is relevant info that also can help a piece of software strive. I happen to use both Timbuktu and FileMaker.

I am not saying not to clamour for video or parity with the windows version or whatever you want, but for goodness sake I am fed up with people who want to look at their girlfriends and post this everywhere.

Living with her is certainly more enticing than even v2.5 of Skype !… and if you cannot, dump here and take a local one. This of course if guys have not become so affected and corrupted by political correctness that they are incapable any-longer to think on those lines.

And I add, the “mistake” Ryan did in my opinion is that he should have posted these items in 3 separate threads and across 3 days as – not only it would make the user feel the blog is “moving” – each items deserved its own heading

:D that’s ok for my girl friend, we are maried since 10 years and have 2 children
But for any video with family living in france (we are abroad- it would be great
