Skype Certified Handset Winners

I was surprised this morning, out of 250+ entries into the guess the score contest only 2 people guess the score correctly.

So well done to:

Saulius Vilda – Lithuania

Bastian Ruhle – Germany

who both win a Skype certified CyberPhone

Manufacturer’s Description:

The Cyberphone-W is a two-piece handset and base powered by the USB and fully integrated with Skype. With more keys to make it even easier to use with Skype, the handset also features wideband circuitry so Skype calls deliver MP3 quality sound. Affordable, effective and just like using a regular telephone – push everything else aside while you chat for free to your online Skype friends, wherever they are in the world.

I use the earlier model to this at home and it’s very good with superb call quality.
What I like even more is the Cyberphone guys have used the Skype API to give you special buttons on the phone so you can control Skype.

Using these buttons you can navigate though your contacts, move between the Skype tabs (Contacts, Dial, History) and adjust the phone volume, so you don’t have to dial or mess around with the mouse if Skype is in the wrong screen or not the active application.

It highlights that the Skype API can be used in hardware as well as software which people often forget.

Just as a reminder, aside from this spur of the moment competition, there are only 8 coding days left to enter the API competition to win €2,000.

I get a few questions from time to time asking if the ActiveS or Skype4COM wrappers can be used. They can indeed, we have no restriction on the programming language or the tools you can use. So go for it.

The handset still needs a computer but you can do everything from the handset.

One thing that scares people is having to use a mouse to make phone calls and to have to wear a headphone.

This handset looks like a phone and behaves like a phone so its more, how shall I say… parent friendly.
