Another blog?

Yep, this is another blog. Hopefully it will be useful. If you’re interested in Skype for Mac, and want fresh and tasty information, this is the place.

The idea is that we’ll tell you about upcoming product releases, marketing activities, and new partnership, to give you feel for what we’re actually doing at Skype. We’ll also throw in some close-up photos of our team members, to reduce the amount of words you have to read.

A blog is a conversation, so we are looking forward to your comments, and we will try to keep the site updated. Since we are responsible for the actual product for Skype for Mac as well, it might take sometime for us to answer… We will do our best.

This is me btw, seen through the lens of Photo Booth. I’m the product manager for Mac.

what is Mac Intel roadmap for Skype ?

  5. felyles said 2609 days ago

BTW, Plantronics USB wireless headset works well with Skype on a Mac. BlueTooth headsets don’t sync well with Macs (voice quality is low and voice activated calling is impossible). There is an upcoming software release that will let you Skype people by voice command. Check it out http://speakables.com/Plantronics.htm.

I have a powerbook g4. I can not make calls to a landline or mobile phone. I purchased time and read the faq, but I still need help. If anyone can offer advice I would be in your debt.

How about basic things for Skype mac, like SkypeWeb integration? I don’t understand why the option is set within the client, and not on your online account in the first place, but hey.

Will ths video skype version be compatible with G4 or G5 processor?…
I’m afraid that it will only work on MacIntel….

    What’s hapend with this blog?
The last post is from march 29, are ther news from Skype for Mac?

    Another four days without news…

Okay BTW, if you really are a mac guy, tell me why we don’t have video on Skype.
Yahoo has video, iChat has video so it must be possible to DO something no?
When Google promised to create Google Earth for Mac, it happened! They worked on it! Wake up those developers and don’t let them push you in a corner because you are a “mac’ guy. And please let them create the upgrade for G3, G4 and G5 powermacs because most of the mac users don’t have an intel mac yet.
Make it happen BTW! I’m counting on you.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, all of you

    Imzalar – good ideas!

Artyomt – I’m afraid can’t give you an exact date but Skype for Mac will be a universal binary, and it will happen soon.

Felyles – I’ve checked out Speakables for Skype but haven’t really got it to work well, it doesn’t recognize my voice commands. I’ll play with it more over the weekend.

Happenchance – SkypeWeb is on the roadmap, I agree that we need it badly.

Paco.calderon/fadi86 – this blog isn’t dead but we’ve just been buried under work. I think we might get some extra help with keeping the blog updated quite soon…

    RE: Speakables for Skype

Make sure that you have activated Speakable Items (Apple’s imbedded voice recognition) and try a few commands on that first. Speakables for Skype works through Speakable Items so it has to be up and running first. You can find quick instructions to activate it at http://www.speakables.com/Speakable_Items.htm

Also make sure that you are not using a Bluetooth headset (They don’t work with Apple’s voice recognition system).

Am I understanding correctly……….there is no webcam available for Mac yet? I was hoping to purchase one now that I have Skype.

Do we at least have a tentative release date for a video version of Skype for MAC. My pc pals are all loving this!

OK, I have a problem. I use 4 computers: an xp laptop from work, and yes: 4 macs, 1 of them a 8600 (no support, no problem), 1 an iMac G3 (no support: what the …?!) and a PowerMac G3 silver (no support!).
When I’m travelling (USA, UK, Austr.) I want to call home; no use for skype, ’cause it is not supported for older macs. I could of course buy credit and call the fixed phone, but that’s hardly what I’d like to use Skype for.
Do I really have to buy a new mac or a pc to be able to phone home?
Why is there not a possibillity to download an older version of Skype for older Macs?
