Any flash experts?

Well as you can imagine I am a happy man today after yesterdays result. A lot of people guessed at 4 – 0 defeats and I was one of those. I am glad to be wrong.

We only had two winners who correctly predicted the score, so congratulations to:

Paulo Oliveira (Portugal)

Darrell Jordan (USA)

Both will be receiving a WebCam in the very near future.

Voice Applications

One of the categories for the API contest is for the best voice service application. Since many of you will have never built a voice application before and will have no idea where to begin, we have put together this handy guide on how you get started.

Any experts out there know anything about publishing flash movies?

Here is my problem. I create my video tutorials in WMV format. 10 minutes at reasonable quality produces a file of around 10mb – 16mb in size.

If I take the same video, same screen size and same quality and convert it to Flash, I end up with a file that is 190mb. I can’t believe that WMV compression 200 times better

It doesn’t get any better if I try MOV or QuickTime, I end up with huge files.

The only way I can make the file size smaller is to change the video display size, but only when I go down to the size of a postage stamp do I end up with a reasonable file size.

Any experts got any ideas?

Why bother creating a Flash version? Send me the file and I’ll grind it into QT in iMovie and let you know what size it is. relaxedguy at gmail dot com.

Maybe i can help out, i’m quite fluent in flash and have played with videos quite often… if want i can help you out, but will need a copy of your video to see where i can help, plus i’ll be able to give you a player for viewing the video on either the web or a stand alone… give us shout when you can… L8er

I recommend using Squeeze by SorensonMedia. I’ve found that it will pushout almost identical file sizes and quality when comparing Windows Media and Flash video. I used the progressive download presets that came with the software. Hope this helps.

    Hi man,

Using Flash 8 Professional, you can use a free trial etc, than in the install file, after instalation you have the Flash Video Encoder. Than add all the videos that supports. .mov, .wmv etc int he queue list and convert to .flv file.

Using the Flash Authoriting Tool aka IDE you create a new file than, in the panel Components add a new componet just twice clicks in the FLVPlayback. So, add the right folder source to the flash video file and than publish the swf from the main player .swf and the right folder of that.

That’s it you got out a new player with new format video.

Parsing from .wmv and .mov from 100MB to lower size of 12mb like that, using the same video codec for skype.
    High quality etc.. theses things.

    Hope to help you.

PS.. It was the frist time here in the blog

ok, thou this entry is quite old, you may take my advice as one of the best solutions

Search google for WINK 2.0 FLASH – that’s an application that generates your tutorials and saves it as flash directly. There are better programs at the moment offering a good video quality, but WINK is awsome because…… *drumroll* …. it’s freeware!
