    Beware of skype spam!
Here’s a mail I sent to support recently

    To whom it may concern,
I recently tested out the skype software after being asked to check it out by a friend. Unfortunately I used your interface for emailing a few more friends about the product and I’ve received some very irrate demands to never give out emails again due to the amount of spam generated by Skype or third parties. I’d suggest you shut this utility down, demand your affiliates to cease all current spam attacks. Basically by trying to advertise this product I’ve accidentally destroyed a few of my good friends best email addresses.

If you have any reccomendations on how to repair this damage I’d be very interested. There’s got to be some legal consequences for giving out folks email addresses without their permission (remember it was me advertising your software no them signing up to be spammed by every garbage offer in creation).

One very irrate user who will share his findings with the community,
    Mark Essel

ehrm… back when i started using skype, it was working awesome. when i started using skype 2 beta, it was working awesome. i haven’t made any calls for a few weeks, now when i tried it’s breaking up for about 10-15% of the time and ppl on the other end (regular phone) say it sounds like sh!t… what has happened, guys? please-please do your best to fix it!

so that skype would yet again become one of the most awesome program out there (well, it would be totally most awesome, if the global rate extended everywhere in the world… or at least in vietnam… ehhmm…)

    good job though, alltogether…

You have video for the newest PC operating System. I will dump iChat altogether if you come out with a good OS X Tiger version. I’ll check each day for that mac version. Waiting impatiently.

I have recently downloaded Skype and purchased a Logitech quickcam IM. I have 2000 Professional OS. I am very frustrated because I can only see my self on my calls. The person I am calling does not see me and I can not see them. However, other people I know, who Skype works just fine for, have the OS XP. Do I need to change over to XP or am I doing something wrong. Signed Frustrated in Florida.

I just would like to join all other similar voices in here, (amount of which is worth even a petition)
VIDEO CALLS SUPPORT FOR WIN 2000 PLEASE!
Please! What’s wrong with this system? For me it’s much faster and better than XP (which I hate personally) And all other webcam software works perfectly.
For now it’s unacceptable bug for me!

OK, it’s been 10 long weeks since I upgraded to Skype for Windows 2.0 with video and that’s about the same length of time since my girlfriend was last here in England. I bought her a webcam for her iBook in anticipation of Skype for Mac OS/X 2.0 with video…

…please tell me you’re working hard on a release date for the Mac version… it’s great being able to talk with her every day but we want video… NOW!

    Hey

I just downloaded newest version of Skype. And I purchased a Creative webcam Live! Ultra. I can’t get it to work. When ever I test the camera in the settings menu it returns “Unknown Error” or gives an error massage regarding a wrong format from the camera.

    Can anyone help????

Why the video feature anly works with Windows XP??, do not forget of that people like me that has Windows 2000, or Windows 9X.

  13. matheus_ferreira_ribeiro said 2584 days ago

Lol, I have a dual boot machine with win2K and linux… guess what, no video for now =(

Im pretty sure skype will handle that =)

fantastic news for win2k users “Skype Video only works on XP” -
    well done!

  15. reddhatt said 2545 days ago

Wengo does have a linux version with video!

  16. randolphnieto said 2534 days ago

I think the only reason why the WinXP version is the only version that is updated is because it’s the OS of most people. Releasing linux and mac versions would actually take some more time cause code rewrites would be necessary. And possibly the most marketable segment is the WinXP. It’s a waste of time and money to develop a linux one if for example there are only 2,000 users rather than let’s say the windows side which has 2,000,000 users.

    windows 2000 webcam video problem

I had the same problem, that video does not work in w2k. I disinstalled the last version and used an older one: SkypeSetup-Beta-2.0.0.43 (get it here http://www.kremenchuk.org/SkypeSetup-Beta-2.0.0.43.exe (8 831 392 bytes))

    Now the video is functioning!

Wise people say that one should use recent version of DirectX. In my case it was not a problem!

I appreciate so much skype video I wanted to have it on my note book, I took a skype certified webcam but I have WINDOWS 2000 and it doesn’t work, I joint the large number of skype users asking you to support windows 2000.

I gave up MSN messenger for skype but I’m stuck with my portabe PC under Win 2000 pro ((

  19. mike40033 said 2523 days ago

Let me add my ‘ME TOO’ – I’m a Linux User, and disappointed that the latest version of Skype for me is only 1.2, whereas windows is already up to 2.5.

When will the Linux version be out? Would have already switched to aMSN except for some firewall problems… and GnomeMeeting for Windows will be out soon…

I desperately need a linux versio of skype video call!
