Unlike landlines that allow reaching out to distant places, Skype is designed to allow you connect to other **people**.
Indeed, Skype is about sharing, but if you ever give your bank card and its PIN to anyone else, then you alone will be responsible for anything that may happen. Sharing your Skype name is good but the password should be kept secret.
And of course, auto-login should never be used on a shared computer. Even (or especially ) if you share the computer with your family.
This is why I have requested a long time ago in the Skype Forum that only one Skype session should be allowed using the same Skype username…
There are good uses for multiple logins, e.g. when you want to have your entire chat history in one place.
I for example often keep myself logged in at the office when I’m actually at home. So when I return to the office next morning, I’ll still have all the chats there that I had with the Skype developers from around the globe.
But of course this should only be done in situations where you are sure nobody can use your other computer while you’re away. It is a good habit to lock your desktop whenever standing up from behind your desk. And “whenever” also means “when going to fetch a cup of coffee”.
I agree that multiple logins can be a useful feature, however It seems to me that an even greater problem with it is the chance that somebody else logged in under my name might change my skype password, thereafter preventing me from logging into my own skype. The solution, clearly is firstly to give notification to existing logins when a new login appears, and then to require the real user (me) to accept the new user with a special password. Secondly, when a change in password is requested, the same secondary password should be required.

I have three computers at home (kids) and now I’m in trouble with Skype bookkeepers. Very polite bookkeepers from Skype reversed my payment because I’ve tried to use Skype on two of my computers. Fortunately they gave me my last chance to pay for Skype services by using paypal.

Skype does not allow you to change your user name. The only way to accomplish this is to cancel your current account and open a “Fresh” account. It’s ahassle, but currently the only way to “git er done”

I see no useful instructions on changing your skype name. Very sad that this seems to be a non-updateable field. Must be used as unique identifier which is not a good idea. A quick change would provide good customer service. Folks should have the option since once they get used to Skype, might have selected a name that they didn’t want to share.

It is appalling that in a firm as large as Skype there are all these people on this page wanting to change their skypename , probably like me, for real security reasons and Skype is ignoring them. Further it appears that due to this first problem which Skype has not attended to thousands of people want to kill their accounts and start again yet Skype has put difficulties in the way of getting this done! This all smacks of manipulation and a lack of care. Someone from Skype should CLEARLY put on this blog links to do both things but I have doubts that my message will even appear on it anyway if my suspicions about manipulation are correct. For instance, the FAQs give Skype, Profile, Skypename as a route to changing skypename but there is no such option on my menu! Just what is going on can someone please enlighten me?
