Documenting the Skype family experience
Someone has [put up a blog to document their experience as they dump their landline and switch completely to Skype+cellphone](http://skypefamily.blogspot.com/). Found it in Skype Forums, the blog has a link to the relevant thread. Sounds like it’s going fine so far.
> … that’s about a $3.70 savings and multiply that times 52 weeks a year(for those who call at least once a week) and that comes out to around a $192 a year savings. That’s money we will never have to let go of and give to our local telephone company.
Losing the landline. This is now common. So last year I dumped my landline and jumped on the VoIP bandwagon through a service offered by my local cable company. Good service! Worked great and cost less. But then I realized how little I used it (combined with my cell phone) and decided it still wasn’t worth it.
So now I’ve purchased a Skype adapter, wired my home phone system to Skype ONLY and use that as our additional line. (For the occasional fax out, etc.) That combined with my Cell phone is perfectly fine. Skype is awesome.
The world of “POTS” (Plain Old Telephone Service) is pretty much dead in my generation. All things move ahead. My grandmother saw the death of 1950′s Radio Shows when the television became widely accepted.
