200 million downloads

This morning, Skype hit 200 million downloads. To celebrate, we made a picture. Set it as your own picture too :) (Right-click on the picture, click “Save Picture As…” and save it somewhere, and then set it as My Picture in your Skype.)

Update: here’s another version that works even better in Skype.

Some fun facts about our downloads. Skype download infrastructure is quite massive and cool — thumbs up to those who maintain it around the clock.

* At peak time, we’re pumping out close to 10 downloads a second. That’s almost a million downloads every single day by now. Not quite a million every day yet, but we’re getting there.
* The download traffic at peak time adds up to 500 Mbit/sec, or 0.5 Gbit/sec. That’s 500 times more than an average 1 Mbit home “broadband” connection.
* We got from 0 to 100M downloads in 595 days, from 100M to 150M in 124 days, from 150M to 200M in 83 days. There’s no signs of the pace slowing down.
* Take all of the figures with a grain of salt, since obviously not every download is completed and ends with an installation. But it’s still cool.

They said email was the technological revoultion of our generation. They said this would be it for now. They thought there was no way to further then internet revolution.

    They were wrong.

Skype is becoming the email of today, and the traditional phone is in decline. Very few of my friends have landline phones.

    Congratulations on 200million, here’s to reaching 500m!

    Fine!
    Only from a site «Skype in Russia» ( http://www.skypeclub.ru/ ) we have about 3 thousand downloads in a week!
    And this number constantly increases!

    Another fun fact:

200 million downloads (and that’s not users, that’s downloads, i’ve downloaded it ~5 times what with upgrades and reinstalls)

    2.6 billion dollars

ebay paid an amazingly unbelievable 13,000.00 dollars PER DOWNLOAD.

i dont know what you guys did to the ebay acquisitions team, but i do know this: whatever the heck you guys slipped into their coffee at the meeting has got to be VERY VERY illegal stuff.

I first tried to post this in Facts & Figures so please forgive if it ends up there too as a cross-post.

I’m curious when the dormant RSS feeds are going to be live again? Stats hasn’t been updated since Sunday and both the Extras and Developer blog feeds haven’t been live since 04 Oct.
