Skype and MCE

Have you ever wanted to turn your Microsoft Windows XP Media Center (MCE) PC into a communications machine? If so then a cool upload has just been entered into the extras gallery.

pic1
Christoph Buenger has written and submitted an MCE plug-in that will allow you to listen to voicemails, accept or reject incoming calls. It will even pause the current program and allow you to take the call, and then when you are finished it will resume the program from where you left off.

All by using the MCE remote and from inside the MCE shell.

Pretty damn cool…

If you have an MCE then take a look a the application here.

Here are a couple more screen shots.

What about support for us pour souls with MCE2004?

MS doesn’t exactly offer an upgrade DL for 2005

    Extender-support:
Extenders have no microphone. How to make phone calls through it, though? The call history and voicemails will be accessible from extenders in a later beta.

    MCE2004:
MCE 2004 does not support the functions i use in the plugin. So call notification will NEVER work in MCE 2004. The rest should work. I will check this.

    Hi folks,
Love Skype, though I have yet to find much time to take advantage of it more than a few times.
    Heard your co. was sold.
Also heard Skype can make me very visible on the web; True?
My Norton A-V has blocked two “attacks” from China – one was China Telecom, the other – another telco there. When I did some searching around, I read they don’t knowingly allow your software to operate on their people’s computers. I further read that Skype on my computer can make me vulnerable to their attacks. Yuk, eh?
