IPEVO sold their initial USB phones stock in 50 hours
[IPEVO](http://www.ipevo.com) is a spin-off of [PChome Online](http://www.pchome.com.tw/), Skype’s partners in Taiwan. They have been testing the market for this category of devices for quite a while and have now expanded their device operations into a separate brand. They’re very energetic and fun people to work with
so we’re happy their business is going well.
Now they made this new simple USB phone and launched it in Taiwan on Sept 12. The initial stock was sold out in just 50 hours! However, according to them, another batch of the phones is ready, and will be sold from FNAC bookstores in Taipei starting from Saturday.

It has been a while Skype is around! Now that eBay is holding it, its time you separate Skype’s Reliance on Computers! Personally no one wants to sit in front of a computer to talk! I request Skype to work on having a device, that will work without computer! i.e, I can just hook this on to a wireless router and Bingo to skype network! Others reading this article, please support and request skype for a device that can work independently!
Niclas, Janus – Continue your great work!
Cheers!
Harikw – Skype runs nicely on Pocket PC. There are also combo phones from Olympia and Siemens (possibly others as well) that allow to choose if you want to make the call via normal landlines or via Skype. Jaanus has rumored of the upcoming wifi phone so we’re definetly working on stuff that allows you to be free from computer.
They need to have a screen that displays the contect list, and a caller id. Also it can make landline calls through your house phone and be cordless too…then I would buy one.
personally i like skype just the way it is & i love the fact that its free, 1ce u start getting onto those other devices u start getting cellular service charges & all that other phone company BS so i like skype online works great on my pc!! for my mac thow I woulednt mind a version that works on my mac osX 10.1 migrating to the new osx costs a bundle
The Ipevo USB Phone at this discounted price could be offered to Skype Customers Irrespective of Country of Issue of the Credit Card. Look at all the free publicity Skype are giving them. Remember Europe is an ever Expanding Market should not be Ignored.
USB Phone better utilizes power of your computer. Also development & updates of Skype software will always be faster for PC versions. There’s no chance to implement all cool functionality of Skype to independent device. Chat, file transfer, settings,… There are still big group of Skype users which feel comfortable to make calls sitting at their desktops.
“initial stock sold out in just 50 hours”
awwwwww thats great realy…
In a small, electronicly underdeveloped dare i say village called Taiwan(!!!)
So – what kinda news is that when u don’t give minor facts – like the size of that initial stock?
Cause actually it doesn’t knock me over – that a company sold usb phones… – there r usb phones on the market – yet not only USB phones – imagine – there are even USB sticks – having a bluetooth functionality – and guess what – i can even use em with my headset – as long as the software supports it.
So i wonder if this breaking news might be a breaking add?
Great program. way better than the default Apple clock. I love being able to see every timezone that I am interested in without any hassle. The calendar is really nice and the To Do lists are getting even better. What an awesome program! I can’t wait to see what they will add next!
I honestly think Skype was too fast to approve this.
1. After a restart nothing works because their executable fails to start on its own and has to be started manually every time you reboot your laptop. Not that they mention that possibility anywhere. So if you do not know how to check for running executables, forget it. Detaching and attaching the USB connector again does not work, BTW.
There went my hope of buying it for all my non-technical friends.
2. The plastic phone shell is of a very low quality. The “battery” lid fells off and does not stay in place whatever I do. The tabs on the lid are so thin that they get bent immediately after you open the lid for the first time (in my case it just remained on the table when I picked the phone for the first time.
Inside the battery compartment is a piece of steel wrapped in foam (probably to add weight and may be some support for otherwise falling off lid. This fake battery together with a non-connected antenna and overall weird look of a cell phone that is not a cell phone is sure to lift some eyebrows during your next airport security check.
Alex.
Why doesn’t skype support ebay sellers that are selling USB Phones, it is obviously the cheapest place to buy them. Also getting two birds with one stone.
Tom.
harikw’z idea seems to be very nice. Who likes to sit infron of computer and talk. Just make some device so that one can plug to the internet connection and call.
IT would be great. And include more countries in the skypein list.
