Let's roll those dollars (yet another beta)
Skype is proud of being international and localized. We have partners in many countries, our services and software are available in tens of languages, both official and user-supported.
Yet a critical piece of the puzzle has been missing. No matter where you came from, if you wanted to buy our paid services, you were always forced to pay in the Euro currency. This was all fine and good for our European Union friends, but there are many of you in the world who haven’t seen a single Euro and conduct their daily lives in another currency. And we forced you to perform confusing rate calculations all the time (“How much does this cost in my currency? How about this call? How much credit do I really have left?”)
Or, we’re happy to say, it used to be so until now. **Dollar payments for Skype paid services are now available as public beta.**
]]>### What does it mean?
It means that you can log on to [Skype Web Store](http://www.skype.com/go/store) and choose the currency you want to use when transacting with Skype. All future transactions, including purchases, calls etc will be made and billed in that currency. You can also change your currency on-the-fly — it doesn’t affect your payment or call history, but future purchases and calls will again be made in that currency.
### What currencies are supported?
Currently, in addition to Euro, only US Dollar. Others will be added in the future.
### Cool, so how do I use it?
To change your currency, go to [Skype Web Store](http://www.skype.com/go/store) and click on Settings in the lefthand menu. Select “Change Currency” and follow the on-screen instructions for completing the procedure. Note that if you have any remaining SkypeOut balance, it is converted too, but at a rate that may be not so favourable to you. So if you convert back and forth between currencies, you may end up with a lower balance. We warned you.
### I have more questions?
See the [currency changing and payments FAQ](http://www.skype.com/go/help.faq.currency).
I think it’s great that skype have let people make transactions in different curencies. One question though: Will pound sterling be supported by skype soon?
Very nice, but personally I’m fine with Euros, so long as I don’t have to pay them (I live in Canada, so USD is not much better than Euros). Great first move, however.
One suggestion would be to consider the service provided by PayByCash — they accept many currencies, and could possibly be used as an alternate payment method. They automatically convert the payment in your currency to the currency of the payee.
[I don't mind having to buy blocks of e.g. 5 USD, but I'd like to be able to use my Interac account; PayByCash is one way of doing so. PayByCash always bills in the local currency, using their exchange rates.]
That said, I don’t know what the fees for the service are, and if they’ll accept you. I know some online gaming services use the service as a way of accepting payments, however.
Why can I not receive confirmation code when I buy skypeout credit?????
Emergent!!!!!!
Although I welcome prices displayed in dollars – I must laugh at those posters (many from the US) who seem incapable to do currency conversions from the Euro.
Is it too difficult or just a matter of not getting your way for once !!
Can we have sterling as well Mr Skype ? I’m happy to convert (without complaining) in the meanwhile.
Well your whole payment system is just not working for many countries in Asia. Paypal, Visa, Amex etc. won’t allow to send anything from countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and even Singapore is now those days affected by it. Your other options not working either. You girls and guys from Skype are good innovaters however you can’t find a good payment system. Read… loosing a big market.
Besides you quality maybe improved but what about having a low mono sound setting for those on very low bandwidths say from 28Kbps. As that’s another problem, since your innovating software becomes bigger and bulkier it is almost impossible to make a good connection from Indonesia, Malaysia, big parts of India… Look up why there are just a few users in these countries?
I have choosen for Quest iconnect and works just fine also at low bandwidth… How is that? Cheap also in international calls… Skype is sure not the Skype anymore from the beginning when a phonecall even pc to pc still was possible.
It would be great for an international service provider to accept differrent currency. But how would that make any sense if every call I make would be calculate in Euro?
Does that mean I had to turn on the news report to see up-to-date currency exchange rate before I make out a call?
For those local partnership you already build up such as Hutchison, Skype-out should provide a compettitive local currency list but not reference to Euro dollors.

doesn’t work!
Please fix and let me know. My Business is not going to use Skype again until billing is fixed.
