Internet Explorer and Outlook toolbar betas

We’ve just posted the first betas of toolbars for [Internet Explorer](/directory/skype_toolbar_for_internet_explorer_%28beta%29/view/) and [Outlook](/directory/skype_toolbar_for_outlook_%28beta%29/view/) in our Skype Extras Showcase. They are endorsed and developed by Skype, so you can be as ruthless in commenting them, as you would be with the Skype client itself, as we want them to be good. Please give your feedback to the [forum](http://forum.skype.com/viewforum.php?f=26) or as just comments to the relevant Extras Showcase items.

Nice tool, any chance of a Firefox version?

  2. n-yoshi said 2906 days ago

    I want Firefox version too.

By the way, the distinction between the Postal code and the telephone number seems not to go well yet.
Each country must devise a different judgment method about the description method of the telephone number.

Would be cool if there was an Opera,or FireFox plugin, comparable with the IE toolbar….

Congratulations on a new addition to the growing Skype family.

As a developer of Outlook tools we have a large Outlook client base and had been about to release such a tool to meet their needs. However, with the announcement and now release of a tool from Skype we have dropped ours and recommend that they use your offering. I especially like the ability to use numbers from emails, a feature that I can see will be of great value.

    A couple of questions/observations.
    1) Our version creates a user defined field to hold the SkypeID. This has the advantage that there is no conflict with existing data – even in a rarely used field like Radio. It also allows the user to display the field in the contact list and have the column heading show something meaningful like Skype ID! If you provided this option then it would fill a requirement.
    2) When selecting one contact from another, the dialing information is not always updated correctly in the Skype toolbar. I am sure that this issue is one you have recorded but mention just in case. We have tested against Outlook 2003.

Once more congratulations on an excellent addition to Skype.

    Regards
    Graeme

Since i installed Skype for Outlook the outlook goes very very slow…

Everytime i point into an email, seems that the app tries to collect all dial information (that I believe it’s stored into the company server..) and if the mail has a significant number of inboxes it takes ages (15 minutes for 50 inboxes..!!??!!)

So I had to deinstall it… but i’d like to hear your comments.

    regards.

Great Functionality but Outlook slows down drastically.

  12. macieii said 2904 days ago

I installed the toolbar but it didn’t work correctly. I noticed at least 4 bugs
    1. The Office Assistant pops up with a message “GET: invalid WHAT 7″.
    2. After I shut down the Assistant, the same message popus up in a modal window every 20 seconds.
    3. It is not possible to skype anyone from Outlook or chat. The only thing that worked was Skype Out.

Great idea, but still in its early stage.

Hi, I would like it also for Firefox, preferably in form of a Nescape compatible plugin, so that it can be also used for Mozilla and Konqueror.

    Thank you for Skype!

If there was a Firefox version, it would be better…

  15. note2nate said 2901 days ago

2 thoughts: Go Firefox!, and who uses IE anymore anyway? & I’m sorry if you do…

  16. marthe224 said 2900 days ago

    Please create one for Firefox!

  17. kenhaniu said 2900 days ago

Great functionality, but Outlook does seem sluggish (50% CPU for several seconds per email viewed) when it’s installed. Would be nice for it to remember toolbar location, too.

And here’s another vote for a Firefox version!

  18. nik_skyfly said 2900 days ago

Please Skype create it for MOZILLA FIREFOX

  19. plancade said 2900 days ago

We use Firefox at business … so when you want on this browser, you’re welcome.

… and with Lotus Notes too

  20. chnwxx said 2900 days ago

I want skype toolbar for thunderbird too.

  21. rasko5 said 2900 days ago

I also think it would be nice if there was a firefox version.

  22. jimich said 2900 days ago

    Hello

I think a lot of people using skype are also using firefox …
If you contact the mozilla foundation, i’m sure they will be glad to help you to developpe an extension for firefox and thunderbird …
Google did it, yahoo too …
Simply use xul to create the toolbar/extension, and if you manage well, this extension will be compatible with thunderbird also …

  23. skype27239 said 2899 days ago

    Does not work under Maxthon

  24. chuckc44 said 2899 days ago

Another vote for Firefox and Thunderbird. Skype is really great and that addition would be *very* helpful.

  28. serge.vbr said 2887 days ago

Very nice tool and saving me time to “copy-paste” the phone numbers when searching in the yellow pages.
I am using I explorer 6 and window XP.

  29. brook22 said 2871 days ago

Ordered one about two weeks ago. Works well, exactly as advertised. Fast service, helpful website. Would recommend over other seemingly less professional e-stores.

  30. yappergal said 2871 days ago

Highly recommended! Bought one around a month ago. As I’ve expected, I can make Skype calls no problem. What impresses me the most is the subsequent software updates. The new software basically gives me a free Skype Voicemail.

  31. yapperboy said 2867 days ago

    Great product. Great customer service.

  32. ianmcevoy said 2844 days ago

Works great normally – but don’t seem to be able to stop it deleting zeros when transferring from outlook to Skype. Probably load up settings but can’t change them either

  33. natecmed said 2813 days ago

Hi… this toolbar has a very good functionality. However, my outlook turned extremely slow after I installed the toolbar. My other programs works perfectly.

There is an add-on available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/3320 that works with thunderbird 2.+. But you have to modify the install.rdf file to make it work. Download the add-on and rename it with a .zip file extension. Extract install.rdf from the zip. Open install.rdf with your favorite text editor, like notepad or pspad. Edit line 18 from this 1.5.0.* to this 2.0+ Save install.rdf. Add it back to the skype add-on zip. Rename the skype add-on file by removing the .zip extension. It should now end with .xpi. I did this and all seems to work on my windows 2000 system with tb 2.0.0.6, Observative.
