Minutes served: ten billion

Today, we hit the 10 billion Skype-to-Skype call minutes served mark at around 18:00 GMT. Let’s recap. Skype was released in August 2003. We hit 1 billion minutes served somewhere in July 2004. Now, it’s 10 billion minutes in June 2005.

So it took roughly the same time to get from 0 to 1 billion, as it took to get from 1 billion to 10 billion. Does this mean we’ll be able to celebrate 100 billion next May? Who knows. In any case, you can track all the figures on the [Facts & Figures](http://blogs.skype.com/facts_and_figures/tools_for_sharing/facts_%26_figures/) page.

Well done to Skype! I’m sure at the rate we are all recommending the service, you will hit 100 Billion soon

Kudos 2 u… what a coup. One delicious subtlety of Skype is knowing that the IT&T and Bell providers, among many others, are grinding their teeth in hatred. “Skype is eroding our profits! PC telephony must die!”

I don’t think so. Soon, all digital devices– cellphone, watch, calendar/addressbook, Internet-enabled PC, audio/video player– will be handheld, in a single unit like a large wristwatch or beltpack. It will be wireless of course.

Call them whatever, WDI, Wireless Digital Interface, pronounced “Widdy”. Everybody who is cool will wear a Widdy.

By wedding the Web PC and the telephone, Skype moves us another step closer to this ideal.

Is Skype out reaching capacity ??
In the last coupled of days, calling with Skype out has been quite difficult and itermittent.. I had outages of a few hours, when the phone rang once and then died (but I was still charged for it) and if I got connected I could only hear my echo stronger than the person on the other side of the line.
What really let me down a bit is that I communicated this to customer services and in 3 days I didn’t get any reply..no good for such a start-up company..
did anybody else had problems ?

I’ve been trying to get help from Skype since June 28 and have received no responses to my requests for assistance regarding a problem with paying for credits via credit card. How do you get a response? I haven’t been able to use this service at all yet.

I’d like to add to the number of minutes that Skype has been used and wanted to purchase minutes for directly calling a telephone number but have been unable to do this by charging my Visa account for the credited minutes. I completed a trouble ticket on June 22 and finally heard from someone on June 29, but the message was for me to check FAQs. I had already done that. The other suggestion was to visit this site. It looks like Davidamescurtis was also having the same problem I was having paying for credits via credit card. Has this problem been fixed?

Does anyone know if the Yamamoto USB Deskphone is MAC (10.4.2) compatible?

  8. tux661 said 2825 days ago

No, there is no support for the Mac yet. However, I bought mine from http://www.thelinuxshop.co.uk and got mine working with Fedora Core Linux. The phone works great, I bought one of these for the speakerphone and another Yamamoto LCD phone to use on my laptop which I have Windows XP on. Very good build quality on both products.

It’s cheap and it works fine.

But, the keyboard on the phone doesn’t work unless you install an extra application, that you can download from the yamamoto website. And I think that’s only for Windows.

Anyway, it gave me some trouble so I went back to using the computer keyboard for dialing, ‘pick up phone’ button, ‘put down phone’ button etc. So basically the phone has just become a speaker and a microphone.
